It has been a week...WE MADE IT...and we are still doing just fine.
We cut our cable. We had four boxes hooked up. We got rid of it completely. We have not access to normal television. The decision came for multiple reasons. One, we are absolutely disgusted by what is being broadcast. Even if you find a family movie, you have to worry about what commercial's will pop up. Two, we are looking to save money.
On to spending time with God, books and videos, games and spending time with each other. We also invested in a Roku box that will allow Netflix instant t.v. to go straight to our television. It is so much more controlled. I can pick series such as Leave it to Beaver to be able to be shown on our television and also we are allowed DVD's delivered to our home. All at a MUCH more reasonable rate than the cable.
I'd say we have plenty of things to keep us busy.
God holds us responsible for enriching our childrens lives with good things.
"I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thessalonians 5:23)
I had a teacher that would always tell the class Garbage In, Garbage Out and I truly believe that. I am hoping that my children will appreciate going back to simple life. With cell phones, computers and television, our children are far too stimulated. Time to get back to the basics. I am doing this so that my children's children will benefit from it. In 2 Timothy 1:5-7, there is talk of the influence a grandparent has on future grandchildren.
I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. 6For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.
This is encouraging that even though the decision might be hard, it will show itself to be a worthy decision down the line.
I am happy for a quiet weekend with my family. I hope yours will be too.

I totally understand about the TV. We have to keep our cable because it doubles everything else we have connected to it.. our phone and internet with the cable is a package. Take away TV and it's really high. So what do we do..? we don't watch it.. Like it's not there. Its soul purpose is to keep our other bills low.. It's sad but that's the only way right now. I agree wholeheartedly about how the TV is a bad influence and it's our responsibility as parents to teach our children what's right so our grand children and great grand children will reap those benefits. I tell myself that daily when I am trying to break generational curses that have plagued my family and I take heart, because God is awesome! Many blessings Andrea!

Mommy is VERY strict on what we watch. She only lets us watch non-commercial programming. Mostly we see stuff she records on the DVR (from PBS and Noggin) and movies we rent from the library. Mommy says they have cable with phone and internet (much cheaper), BUT we only have 2 TVs in the house. One is in the living room, the other is in the basement and only is for Daddy to play video games. Eva and I would much rather dance and play with Mommy & Daddy than watch TV anyway.
I completely agree that you can control your childrens t.v. viewing, but for us, this was just better. It happened to be cheaper for us to go this route as WOW cable comes with deals in bundles. If I had gone with basic cable, it would have been more money than just going with three options, so I just cut cable completely and it was 100 dollars cheaper to have a two option bundle which included phone and internet still.I don't think it is a choice for everyone, but it is a better choice for our family for now, not only for the younger ones but for us adults and the one teen in the house ;)
Skyangel is an option to consider. However, one still has to sift through and make decisions and be aware of a show's content no matter what the source!
